SUMMARY:NATIONAL SORRY DAY
DESCRIPTION:Observed annually on 26 May\, National Sorry Day remembers and acknowledges the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their families and communities\, which we now know as ‘The Stolen Generations’. \nNational Sorry Day is a day to acknowledge the strength of Stolen Generations Survivors and reflect on how we can all play a part in the healing process for our people and nation. While this date carries great significance for the Stolen Generations and other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples\, it is also commemorated by Australians right around the country. \nThe first National Sorry Day was held on 26 May 1998\,  one year after the Bringing Them Home report was tabled in Parliament. The Bringing Them Home report is a result of a Government Inquiry into the past policies which caused children to be removed from their families and communities in the 20th century.

SUMMARY:National Reconciliation Week 2020
DESCRIPTION:National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories\, cultures\, and achievements\, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. \nThe dates for NRW remain the same each year; 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 referendum\, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively. \nThe theme for #NRW2020 – In this together – is now resonating in ways that could not have been foreseen when it was announced last year\, but it reminds us that\, whether in a crisis or in reconciliation\, we are all in this together. \nReconciliation is a journey for all Australians – as individuals\, families\, communities\, organisations and importantly as a nation. At the heart of this journey are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. \nWe all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation\, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples\, histories\,  cultures\, and futures. \nFind out more about National Reconciliation Week \nCheck out 20 ways you can be In this together in 2020
